IMPERIALISM IN INDIA




IMPERIALISM MEANS THAT WHEN A COUNTRY FIGHTS FOR ANOTHER COUNTRY AND TAKES OVER IT AND YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THERE RULES.




      • The first Europeans to establish roots in India since the fall of the Roman Empire were the Protuguese.
      • in 1600, the British East India Company was given the right to a monopoly to trade with India.
      • In 1664, French finance minister Jean-Baptiste Colbert launched the French equivalent of the English East India trading Company .
    • The Industrial Revolution created a large demand for raw materials and new markets.
    • Nationalism-
      • Nationalism is pride in one's country and European nations wanted to demonstrate their power to the world.
    • Balance of Power-
      • European nations were forced to acquire new colonies to achieve balance.
    • White Man's Burden-
      • The Europeans’ sense of superiority made them feel obligated to “civilize the heathen savages” they encountered.
